Frequently Asked Questions

I’ve compiled a list of the most frequent questions that I have received. It’s normal and encouraged for patients to ask many questions when choosing to work with a new therapist. Here are some answers to the questions I receive the most. If you can’t find what you are looking for, please get in touch.

  • Why therapy? How does it help?
Therapy can be helpful for a number of life's issues: depression, anxiety, grief, relationship issues, family riffs, life challenges, feeling lost, etc. But it's just sitting in a room talking, how can that help me? A fair point. But what therapy provides is a space for you to explore your life in new and profound ways, allowing us to find out the root of the problems you're facing and how to approach them with new insight and more adaptive behaviors. Studies have shown time and again that this therapeutic work causes significant improvements in mental health, and creates a better outlook on life. As humans, we have a natural instinct to seek out deep connection and understanding, and therapy offers just that. The "therapeutic space" allows you to take off the "mask" that we often present to the outside world, and uncover our unconscious mind. Much of how we think and behave comes automatically, without deep, conscious thought. In the therapy room, we can slow down and unveil unconscious patterns and analyze core beliefs that may be destructive or holding you back, while also laying the groundwork for a more loving, accepting relationship to yourself, and an opportunity to create the a more fulfilling life.
  • Why should I choose YOU as my therapist?
Well, I think I'm pretty good at it but my goal is not to convince you to choose me as your therapist. I want you, and everyone else, to have a therapist that they feel comfortable with. Therapy works best when you have a positive, collaborative, and strong connection with your therapist. I encourage you to find one that you jive with because you deserve to have a space you feel safe, seen, and heard. Give me a call and find out if I'm a good fit. If not, no hard feelings at all and I wish you nothing but success in your therapeutic journey.
  • How long does it take?
Well, each individual session is 50 minutes. Because there are more people involved, couples and family therapy sessions are 80 minutes. More broadly, our length of time working together varies. It could take a few sessions or can be longer term, depending on what your therapeutic goals are, how much work you're willing to put in, etc. At the end of the day, the therapeutic journey is yours for as long or as short as you'd like. I'll be ready to walk alongside you either way.
  • How much does it cost?
Individual sessions are $150. Couples and family sessions are $200.
  • Do you take insurance?
No, I don’t directly accept insurance as payment but I can provide a monthly super-bill that can be submitted to your insurance company for reimbursement of what you have already paid. Typically a PPO will do this. Check with your insurance provider to see if they reimburse for psychotherapy with an Out-Of-Network provider.
